What material is A36

Introduction of A36 steel plate:
ASTM a36 is the American standard carbon structural plate, which implements the standard ASTM A36/A36M-03a, (equivalent to the ASME specification)

A36 steel plate impact test:
Charpy V-notch specimens were used for the impact toughness test. The impact toughness index is Akv. For the above-mentioned B, C and D grade steels, Akv≥27J is required under their respective different temperature requirements.

Because Q235B is impact-resistant, Q235B is used instead of SA36 material on the steel structure.

Chemical composition of A36 steel:
C:≤0.25,
Si≤0.40,
Mn: ≤0.80-1.20,
P≤0.04,
S:≤0.05,
Cu≥0.20 (when copper-containing steel is specified)

Mechanical properties of A36 steel:
Yield strength: ≥250;
Tensile strength: 400—550;
Elongation: ≥20.

A36 is a sheet and profile, which is widely used in structures such as brackets and feet. Suitable for riveted, bolted and welded structures for bridges and buildings, as well as structural steel quality carbon steel sections, plates and bars for general purposes.
