Q460 high strength low alloy steel

Q460 is a high strength low alloy steel.

The designation method of Q460:
its steel number is prefixed with "Q", which represents the yield point of the steel, that is, the yield strength. The following number indicates that the yield point value of 460 represents 460 MPa, mega is 10 to the 6th power, and Pa is the pressure unit Pascal.

High-strength steel plate (high-strength plate) refers to the grade Q460 steel with high strength, especially in the normalized or normalized and tempered state, which has high comprehensive mechanical properties.

Q460 means that plastic deformation occurs only when the force strength of the steel reaches 460 MPa, that is, when the external force is released, the steel can only maintain the shape of the force and cannot return to its original shape. This strength is greater than that of ordinary steel.

The general quality grade symbols are A, B, C, D, and E respectively. On the basis of ensuring the low carbon equivalent, Q460 appropriately increases the content of microalloying elements. Good welding performance requires low carbon equivalent of steel, and the increase of microalloying elements will increase the carbon equivalent of steel while increasing the strength of steel. Fortunately, the added carbon equivalent is very small, so it will not affect the weldability of the steel.

Q460 steel is mainly used for large ships, bridges, power station equipment, medium and high pressure boilers, high pressure vessels, rolling stock, hoisting machinery, mining machinery and other large welded structural parts.
