16Mn is a material in steel. A name for steel pipe material.
16Mn steel belongs to carbon-manganese steel, the carbon content is about 0.16%, and the yield point is equal to 343MPa (the strength level belongs to the 343MPa level).
16Mn steel has less alloy content and good weldability, and generally does not need to be preheated before welding.
However, since the hardening tendency of 16Mn steel is slightly larger than that of low-carbon steel, preheating measures should be taken to prevent cold cracks when welding at low temperatures (such as open-air operations in winter) or when welding on large rigid and thick structures.
Preheating temperature of 16Mn steel under different plate thicknesses and different ambient temperatures:
Weldment thickness (mm) Preheating thermometer at different temperatures (℃):
Below 16, not lower than -10°C without preheating, below -10°C, preheat 100~150°C;
16~24 No preheating below -5℃, preheating below -5℃ 100~150℃;
25~40 No preheating below 0℃, preheating below 0℃ 100~150℃;
Above 40, all preheat at 100~150℃.
