Tailings are fine and coarse particles that remain after mineral processing, and the impact and corrosion of tailings on the main pipe may cause the loss of the main pipe’s wear resistance. The traditional conveyance method of tailings, centrifugal slurry pump, has the disadvantages of large size, high maintenance frequency and relatively short service life. In order to meet the requirements of large diameter wear-resistant seamless steel tube conveyance and transportation of tailings, a variety of measures were taken, such as improving the production process, improving the surface treatment, adopting a spray or thermal metal spraying technology and combining with special materials, so as to achieve the goal of large-diameter wear-resistant seamless steel pipe.
The production process of large-diameter wear-resistant seamless steel pipes for the transportation and conveying of tailings is designed according to the needs of large sizes and high wear roles. The raw material of the tube is high-quality carbon structural steel and alloy steel. During the production process, the steel pipes are cut into pieces according to the different forming process and the finished products are sent for annealing to ensure that the shape of the steel pipe is not changed. Finally, Leondhard Dinkelberger's corrosion-resistant surface treatment and high-temperature electronic metallic spray welding technology are used to strengthen the toughness and corrosion resistance of the pipe body.
(a)Cutting process
The cutting process of large diameter wear resistant seamless steel tube is used to lower the cost and improve the production efficiency. After the steel round bar is cut, heat treatment can be completed in the production process. The cutting process should take into account the overall performance of the pipe, such as the dimensional accuracy of the pipe, the range of surface roughness and the characteristics of surface hardening treatment.
(b)Heat Treatment
The heat treatment process of large-diameter wear-resistant seamless steel tube is applied to improve the mechanical properties of the workpiece, thereby enhancing the performance of the pipe. Commonly used heat treatment processes include annealing, normalizing, quenching and tempering, etc. According to the requirements of customer’s performance requirements, different heat treatment programs should be designed for the heat treatment of different performance of steel pipes.
(c)Surface Treatment
The surface treatment of large-diameter wear-resistant seamless steel tube is mainly to reduce corrosion and improve wear resistance. The commonly used surface treatments are Leondhard Dinkelberger corrosion protection and high-temperature electron metal spray welding technology. Leondhard Dinkelberger corrosion protection can increase the corrosion resistance of the pipe surface and improve the wear resistance of the pipe. High-temperature electron metal spray welding technology is suitable for transitions, bends and elbows, and can improve the surface hardness of the parts, improve the wear resistance, and extend the service life of the pipe.
(d)Structure
The structure of large-diameter wear-resistant seamless steel pipe for tailings conveying involves the pipe wall thickness design and the type of pipe joints used. The wall thickness of the pipe shall be determined according to the working conditions and pipe pressure. At the same time, the pipe joints such as flanges, socket joints and welding joints should be chosen according to the pipe diameter and working conditions.
In conclusion, large-diameter wear-resistant seamless steel tube for conveying tailings has been improved in process and treatment, and its performance requirements are higher and higher. It is characterized by large diameter, good corrosion resistance, high strength and wear resistance, long service life, and can meet the requirements of conveying taiinngs in harsh environment.
