Research and application of endogenous superhard TiC super wear-resistant steel in continuous casting slab


    
    Abstract
    
    This article summarises the research and application of endogenous superhard TiC super wear-resistant steel in continuous casting slab. This type of steel has a higher wear resistance which can increase the service life of continuous casting slabs and improve their production efficiency. The reasonable selection of crushing materials for steel rolling and cooling rate through optimization of process parameters of tundish and ladle are discussed. Finally, some conclusions are reached to facilitate the optimal use of the steel.
    
    Introduction
    
    Continuous casting slabs are highly wear-resistant materials, which are widely used in iron and steel production for slab, bloom and billet production. To reduce wear, increase production efficiency and improve product quality, a kind of endogenous superhard TiC super wear-resistant steel has been developed and applied to continuous casting slab production. The characteristics of this type of steel are high wear resistance, corrosion resistance and high temperature oxidation resistance, which can improve the service life of continuous casting slabs, reduce material consumption and improve the overall production efficiency.
    
    Endogenous Superhard TiC Super Wear-resistant Steel
    
    Endogenous superhard TiC super wear-resistant steel is made of a mixture of superhard carbides and fine-grained matrix phase. The carbides are mainly titanium carbides and tungsten carbides. The matrix phase contains boron, molybdenum and other elements in addition to iron and carbon. The fine-grained structure of the microstructure improves its wear resistance and corrosion resistance. Its wear resistance is 2-3 times higher than that of ordinary high-speed steel and can better meet the wear requirements of continuous casting slabs production.
    
    Process parameter optimization
    
    In continuous slab production, in order to improve the wear resistance of the steel, the reasonable selection of hopper and cooling rate should be considered. The hopper feeding material should be selected reasonably. Generally, it should be the material with low wear resistance, such as limestone, marble and so on. The cooling rate should be strictly controlled and not too fast or too slow. If the cooling rate is too fast, it would lead to the decrease of wear resistance.
    
    Conclusion
    
    Endogenous superhard TiC super wear-resistant steel has high wear resistance, corrosion resistance and high temperature oxidation resistance. The reasonable selection of hopper and control of cooling rate can help improve the wear resistance of the steel and extend its service life. It provides a good way for steel production enterprises to improve their production efficiency and reduce their cost.
