What kind of steel is AR500?

AR500 is a steel. There are many manufacturers of it. The letters AR stand for abrasion resistance. 500 indicates the hardness of the steel, but the AR500 scores 477-555 in the hardness test.

Much like AR450 and AR400, AR500 steel is a special type of wear-resistant steel. It has a surface hardness of 477-534 BHN. In contrast, it is a high carbon steel alloy with higher impact resistance and sliding wear resistance. However, this increase in strength and wear resistance reduces the ductility of the steel.

AR500 Features:
Wear steel grades are used in high wear applications such as mining equipment and concrete handling.
Surface hardness ranges from 470-540 BHN.
Has excellent resistance to sliding wear, friction wear and heavy wear.
Withstands high impact stress even at extremely low temperatures.
Different mills have different compositions and hardening processes. A factory test report is provided with each order.

Advantages of AR500 steel:
The hardness and toughness of AR500 steel plate make it extremely resistant to wear and impact. These properties make AR500 steel a durable, long-lasting material, which is critical for applications that require a material that can withstand extreme wear.

AR500 is a hardened steel commonly used in targeting, armored applications, truck plows and mining. It is tempered and wear resistant, making it ideal for high wear applications.

AR500's durability also means that the material needs to be replaced less frequently than less wear-resistant materials, which can reduce material costs and prevent damaging equipment failures.
